Alkalising foods help to reduce the acid load that a diet containing alcohol, coffee, sodas, sugar, processed grains and meat can cause. It’s true that the body does rebalance pH naturally, but this comes at a cost to our mineral stores (bones) and puts extra pressure on our kidneys.
Benefits of going alkaline include protecting our bones, more energy, glowing skin, and lower disease risk💯. Try to have 3-4 of these amazing foods daily:
Matcha – The bright green of our Ceremonial Grade Matcha is a sign it’s packed with chlorophyll that has the magic alkalising effect on the body. Our tea trees are shaded to encourage the plant to push out even more nutrients into the leaves.
Leafy greens – Again the green chlorophyll in plants is a fantastic alkaliser, alfalfa is powerful, or try darker greens like kale, chard and Savoy cabbage. However, be aware that spinach (though highly nutritious) is an exception because it creates oxalic acid in the body.
Lemons – These contain citric acid but when metabolised by our bodies, the ‘ash’ they leave behind is alkaline! Squeeze over your greens, or into water with a tsp of Chlorella for double benefits.
Chlorella – Our super nutritious algae Chlorella is grown in pure spring water, and the minerals it contains help to keep the body alkaline. Plus it’s very green, hi again chlorophyll!
Pumpkin seeds – The only seeds that have an alkalising effect, guess why? They’re green! Eat them raw and sprinkle over salads, soups, or even add to a smoothie.
Wheatgrass – Used for decades as a part of detoxing and alkalising programs around the globe. Organic Burst Wheatgrass is grown in the pristine New Zealand countryside, it tastes slightly sweet, unlike many Wheatgrass powders that are often bitter.
Sprouted almonds – Make this nutritious nut even more beneficial by soaking and sprouting, which removes the phytic acid, making them an alkalising option.
Seaweed – The high mineral content of seaweed is perfect for alkalising. Switch a wheat tortilla wrap, for nori strips, or use seaweed flakes as a seasoning.
